Methane gas produced by cattle is a contributor to 20 percent of global methane emissions each year. In the U.S. alone, cattle produce 5.5 million metric tons of methane per year into the environment (source). Scientists believe that giving up meat one day a week could contribute significantly to less greenhouse gas emissions and help reduce climate change (source). Beyond the environmental benefits, there are numerous health benefits to enjoy as well including lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke.
